Senior security, intelligence and public policy professional. Over 25 years in critical national infrastructure across the UK and EU.

Stephen Hermanson is a senior security, intelligence and public policy professional with over 25 years of experience in critical national infrastructure across the UK and EU.

His career has centred on the intersection of security policy and commercial strategy — building the trusted relationships between government, regulators and industry that allow organisations to navigate an increasingly complex threat landscape. His work spans security partnerships, alliances and advocacy, with a particular focus on shaping public policy conditions that support long-term commercial objectives.

Stephen has held senior roles at National Gas, Vodafone Group, BT Global Services and mBlox Inc (now Sinch AB). From 2004 to 2020 he served in the UK Royal Navy Reserve.

He holds a BSc (Hons) in Information Systems & Management from Birkbeck College, University of London, a certificate in Public Policy Analysis from the London School of Economics and completed the AI Programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.

This blog is where Stephen publishes his analysis of geopolitics, security policy and the sectors — telecoms, energy, defence — that sit at the centre of great power competition. For enquiries, visit the Contact page.
